Macbooks Vs Chromebooks
The Macbook is perhaps the most coveted among notebook PCs, but the new kid on the block, the Chromebook may be giving it some intense competition. This however does not really mean users will opt for Chromebooks as an alternative to the Macbook, the epitome of high-performance and stability. And there are several reasons why.
To begin with there are very few shared features between the two laptop models. They run on two different systems – one on cloud computing and the other that relies on local stored space. This is itself may be a point in favor of the Chromebook, especially for users looking for reliable netbook models that provide great browsing capabilities and are seamlessly integrated with the Google offerings online. The concept of cloud makes the Chromebook the first line of netbooks that rely on online servers for memory and storage, with every aspect of computing including the operating system stored in the ‘cloud’. While this greatly relaxes the strain on the local drive, it means that people are at the mercy of their Internet connections, and can get tricky for individuals who are looking to encrypt files for enhanced security. In addition, several features that most notebooks provide such access to apps, except those created specifically by Google.
Other than the shared trackpads, there are plenty of areas where the Chromebook falls short. In terms of hardware the two are very differently built. Apple’s sturdy design and stable operating system makes the Macbook a high-performance notebook with few counterparts. With impressive processing speeds, enhanced memory and speed not to mention increased storage options, the Macbook offers every PC user the robustness of a desktop and the mobility of a laptop. Chromebook models are on offer from Samsung and Asus, and in general the build and design of the Chromebooks are not comparable with Macbooks.
The Chromebook is very affordable, does offer 3G connectivity, and easy to use multimedia features which makes it the ideal notebook if the Internet is your primary focus. But if design and performance are on your list of must-haves the Macbook is the better pick.
